Quality controls after rapid prototyping

Quality controls after rapid prototyping

Rapid prototyping allows the satisfaction of different necessities, from the realization of small series with a limited number of components to the production of prototypes used during performance test. Apart from the kind of product required, the most important thing is quality.

A flawed production can have different consequences in such applications: a prototype, which does not replicate the required characteristics, will give misleading results during tests and consequently, problems will remain and better solutions will not be found.

Still worse are consequences when the product is directly used and sold on the market. According to the different branches involved, damages to people or things may cause important economic or social costs to the company.

Quality control is definitely a fundamental step to verify pieces meet clients’ requests and reach standards requirements imposed by security laws. PARTEC invest time, resources and technologies to make detailed quality controls on pieces before shipping them to the final clients.

The most important aspect is definitely the dimensional respect of the project. According to the different techniques implemented, we can reach processing tolerances lower than the tenth of a millimetre during the product realization. The operator then checks those values during the dimensional control using specific gauges. All the instruments are periodically checked to test the perfect precision and the state of wear.

Apart from the dimensional control through the gauge, and with prior client indication, PARTEC gives the possibility to make a dimensional control of 100% of quotas thanks to probing systems or the innovative 3D scanner and laser methodologies.

As long as the investing casting methodology is concerned and seen the high-quality standard required by the aviation sector, sometimes non-destructive testing is performed: the name comes from the fact that these kind of control allow the study of the material without damaging the chemical an physical structure of the item analysed.

The control is performed through liquid penetrant to check the superficial integrity of the piece. The liquid is distributed on the component so that non-visible defects come to the surface. At the end of this procedure, the component is sprinkled with a contrast medium (called detector) which allow the liquid penetrant to come to the surface and see flaws.

The X-ray check is useful to analyse the internal structure of a component: it allows seeing inclusions and at the same time verifying integrity, filling and completeness.

Since 1999 PARTEC is the reality, which supports all the companies that want to turn their ideas into winning projects.
