Why should we apply a finishing on a prototype?

The main end of a prototype is the realization of a similar version of the final product. After-process treatment are important for two main reasons: first, the finishes influence the superficies and other model characteristics. Therefore, to ensure the maximum accuracy during test, selecting the most coherent treatment is crucial.
Moreover, rapid prototyping technological evolution allowed the realization of more and more accurate prototypes in a short period, ensuring the possibility to build models destined to trade fairs, presentations and real use. Consequently, finishes are key in obtaining aesthetic results required.

For these reasons, PARTEC offers a huge range of finishes for all the different techniques that can be implemented, enhancing rough prototypes obtained through stereolithography, sintering, vacuum casting, FDM, CNC and fusion.

PARTEC proposes after-process treatments on prototypes to fully satisfy all the demands. Those are:

  • Coating: starting from a RAL, PANTONE or a physical element we can obtain specific colours. Even finishes can change according to the requests: smooth, satin or lucid. A smooth coating leads to clear and soft colours, satin coating gives a brilliant effect and lucid coating ensures the reflectance of a mirror.
  • Soft Touch Coating: differently from the classic coating, it ensures a soft and velvety effect on the surface.
  • Transparent Coating: starting from a stereolithography model with an opal colour, we can reach a perfect transparency thanks to a specific paint, which improves the final aspect. Transparent Coating is also used as impregnating to improve the hygroscopic tightness of the product.
  • Metallisation: it consists in metallic powder deposit on a plastic prototype to make it look like a metal.
  • Chrome plating: Metal pieces are covered with a Nickel and Chromo layer to increase resistance and prevent corrosion.
  • Laser and Tampography: Through engraving and paint removal, we can personalise models with logos and statements.

Generally, finishes allow a model aesthetic increase to implement characteristics and improve tests performances.
